Unable to open your default e-mail folders. file access denied.

When I try to open Outlook, this is the message I receive . .
Unable to open your default e-mail folders. File Access is denied. You do
not have permission to access C: documents . . . . . . outlook/outlook.pst.

I'm stumped. I accessed my e-mail before going to dinner. Ran Norton Virus
check and left it running while I went to dinner. When I returned home I
tried to access my outlook, but all I got was the start up and this error
message. There were no viruses found on my system according to the virus
check.
