Windows XP Home edition SP1 (all updates on)
Internet Eplorer ver: 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.050301-1526

I was use to make my Web searches with Turboscout (www.turboscout.com/) but
Internet Explorer suddenly cannot open it anymore!!

IE got me a message: Impossible to open this web page. (my translation from
french)
Every other web page i'm used to open works correctly.

-I have opened this page on a PC's friend with succes, so no server problem.
-with no Cookie blocker it failed to open
-with no Pop-up blocker, the same
-In reference with: "some pages wont display in internet explorer 6 sp2"
from danthevan, 19/10/2005 , i've tried several things with no result.
* Check for HOSTS file
* Check for Java update
* Check for viruses and spywares and trojans with Kaspersky antivirus,
microsoft antispyware, Ad-AwareSE Personal, Spybot -search and Destroy.
Everything it's good.

any other idea will be welcome, thanks. ;-)

Are you both using the same DNS? If not there could be a "server problem"
--with your DNS.

A more relevant and convincing test would be to use telnet 80
(or another browser).

E.g. switch to a cmd window and enter:

telnet -f telnet.txt www.turboscout.com 80

The screen should clear. That would be proof that a lookup had been
done for that name and a connection established at whatever IP address
your DNS gave for it to that address' port 80 (i.e. to its HTTP server.)

Additionally you could then type: GET /
(That's GET<space><slash><Enter>.)
You will not be able to see your typing.

Do you see the source for the complete page then?
(E.g. last line contains </html> )

Use Notepad telnet.txt to browse the full capture file.
However, note that if the lines are long that telnet may
mess them up by inserting line breaks. E.g. you shouldn't
expect to be able to render the captured text very easily.

Assuming the IP address you are getting is the correct one
that means that you are being blocked from accessing that site.
Check with your ISP?

FWIW here is my nslookup output for that name

<example>
Non-authoritative answer:
Name: www.turboscout.com
Address: 66.221.55.65

Good luck

Good. What that is showing is that the primary DNS address that you
have been given is not working. Fortunately the secondary DNS address
is working but I suspect the delays caused by always checking with the
broken primary will be what is causing your problem symptoms.

FYI to confirm that the primary address is not working as a DNS
you can give it as a second operand to nslookup and force it to be
the server to do the lookup:

nslookup www.turboscout.com 212.27.54.252
*** Can't find server name for address 212.27.54.252: No response from server
Server: UnKnown
Address: 212.27.54.252

DNS request timed out.
timeout was 2 seconds.
*** UnKnown can't find www.turboscout.com: No response from server
</example>

In the meantime what you can do is go to the TCP/IP Properties
dialog (via Networking tab of connection's Properties) and force that
secondary DNS address to be the primary (and only) address that you want
to use (e.g. uncheck obtain DNS automatically, etc.)

Another alternative for this specific site would be to add a temporary override
into your HOSTS file:

<example>
66.221.55.65 www.turboscout.com
</example>

Good luck

Dear Robert,
hoops, speak chinese is not far..

FYI to confirm that the primary address is not working as a DNS
you can give it as a second operand to nslookup and force it to be
the server to do the lookup:

*** Can't find server name for address 212.27.54.252: No response from server
Server: UnKnown
Address: 212.27.54.252

DNS request timed out.
timeout was 2 seconds.
*** UnKnown can't find www.turboscout.com: No response from server
</example>

my result:
C:\>nslookup www.turboscout.com 212.27.54.252
***Impossible de trouver le nom de seveur pour l'adresse 212.27.54.252 :
non-existent domain
Serveur : Unknown
Address: 212.27.54.252

Réponse ne faisant pas autorité :
Nom : www.turboscout.com
Address: 66.221.55.65

Secondly:
In the meantime what you can do is go to the TCP/IP Properties
dialog (via Networking tab of connection's Properties) and force that
secondary DNS address to be the primary (and only) address that you want
to use (e.g. uncheck obtain DNS automatically, etc.)
well with those things, i walk on eggs. I think you work with XP Pro because
in my XP Hom Edition, i have no access to DNS management.

Thirdly:
Another alternative for this specific site would be to add a temporary override
into your HOSTS file:
<example>
66.221.55.65 www.turboscout.com
</example>
IE works faster to announce the page unable to open..

Havn't we did everything we could ? I will send you the result of my ISP
request.
With my respect, SB.

....
my result:
C:\>nslookup www.turboscout.com 212.27.54.252

Réponse ne faisant pas autorité :

That's interesting. So that server address really leads to a DNS server.
(It just doesn't have a reverse lookup.)

Secondly:
well with those things, i walk on eggs. I think you work with XP Pro because
in my XP Hom Edition, i have no access to DNS management.

In fact I do use XP Pro but I don't think that that should matter.
Find the properties for your connection, open the Networking tab,
then select the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item in its "connection uses" list
and click on Properties. That's where you can specify DNS server addresses
or obtain them automatically.

Thirdly:
IE works faster to announce the page unable to open..

Hmm... perhaps the DNS issues are all red herrings then.
Here's what we should have done before to eliminate them
from consideration in the telnet test:

telnet -f telnet.txt 66.221.55.65 80

Havn't we did everything we could ? I will send you the result of my ISP
request.
With my respect, SB.

Every little detail you can amass will add credibility to your complaint
and will make your support person work harder and more efficiently
for you.

Good luck

And my ISP answer for this problem...!!!:

My Question:
SB.

There answer:
Cher Freenaute,
Ce site Internet est accessible de notre coté.

Il devait donc s'agir d'un dysfonctionnement temporaire au niveau du site en
lui même.

Marlène, vous souhaite un excellent surf avec Free.fr.

It's possible that that delay means something else,
e.g. perhaps it is indicative of an MTU size problem.

Here is a link to a networking troubleshooter which you could use
to get more information such as that. It contains a link to an XP
newsgroup which specializes in networking.

Does Free mean that you don't pay for it?
If so, I guess you get what you pay for;
otherwise either escalate your complaint
or look for a different ISP.

Dear Robert,
One more end point.
thank you for the indication for the site: http://www.michna.com/kb/
Another travell in tumultuous regions has to envisage..
A good remark in connection with Free. In fact, it is one of principal ISP
in France. It is serious and,.. paying. Historically it is first to offer
its services without paying subscription and obligation of duration. Being
given the heaviness of the French system in the beginnings, there was indeed
the impression to feel "Free". (translation carried out with Free...hi)
