Thanks Ramesh
I'll get in touch with HP as the Help function is customised by them.
Martin
The REG export looks OK. Two other possibilities:
1/ Wrong AppPaths set for Helpctr.exe
2/ Customized version of Help {need to contact HP for that}
-----------------------------------------------------------
From :
http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/startmenuhelp.htm
See if the registry key exist:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App
Paths\HELPCTR.EXE]
@="C:\\WINDOWS\\PCHealth\\HelpCtr\\Binaries\\HelpCtr.exe"
"PATH"="C:\\WINDOWS\\PCHealth\\HelpCtr\\Binaries\\"
And, what happens if you run the Helpctr.exe from the folder? In the latter
case (2), nothing much can be done AFAIK, except inquiring if there is a
patch from HP.

Hi Ramesh
Thanks for the reply.
Wasn't sure whether to post to this group as the dialog box was titled
'Internet Explorer' so assumed it was IE6.0 related !
Here's the reg key dump as requested:

OEMs usually customize the Start Menu links (especially the Help and Support
URLs). Post the registry export of this key and it's sub-keys.
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{2559a1f1-21d7-11d4-bdaf-00c04f60b9f0}
To export the key, open Regedit.exe and navigate to the above location. Use
the File, Export option and save as a REG file. Edit the REG file with
notepad and post the contents here.
BTW, this is a XP issue, not related to IE.

Hi
Anybody kow how to solve a problem I'm having with Internet Explorer 6.0?
When I open the [Help and Support Center] option from the Start menu, the
following dialog box appears:
---------------------------------
¦ Internet Explorer ¦
---------------------------------
Error in initContentUpdate:-Unable to open registry key
"HKLM\SOFTWARE\Motive\ModelNumber" for reading.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
---
I've checked the registry and the key doesn't exist.
Also, I recently installed Windows XP Professional Upgrade on top of Windows
XP Home edition. Could this be the problem ?
My home computer specification:
Hewlett Packard Pavilion T580.uk
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ processor
1GB RAM
240GB HDD
Nvidia GeForce FX5500 AGP graphics (256MB)
Any help appreciated.
TIA
