unable to open ppt files after office 2003 upgrade

Go to Help/Check for Updates and install the Office 2003 service pack.
 
There is a Service Pack that must be applied. Go to Help > Check for Updates
and follow the links to install the Service Pack.
 
You need to install the critical update. You would think it would work
right out of the box, but it doesn't. It needs to be updated before it
works.
