Unable to open photos in My Pictures

Curious development. I can open folders within My Pictures (and see small
images on bottom of screen, medium one selected on top) but when I click to
view a photo full screen I get a close down and blue STOP screen. Any idea
why? (May be connected - when I recently connected my digital camera to
download photos, the usual 'what do you want to do with this?' mini screen
did not appear.) Thanks

After this happens and you reboot your computer, do you get a message such
as "Your system recovered from a serious error.....send error report". If
you send the error report, what do you get back from Microsoft?
Usually this kind of problem is due to the video graphic card driver
(software, also called firmware) in need of updating. You should go the
internet site of the video card manufacturer to download the most recent
software available.

Drivers and firmware are two different things.
