Unable to Map to remote share through VPN

John Wirt

I am able to establish a VPN connection from home with a domain server on
our corporate network by I am unable to map to my share on a drive on that
network.

I've written a batch file to map the share:

net use Y: \\192.168.132.21\COEFiles Mic1h$igan /USER:INETNCES\jwirt

(passwords are false)

I get an error message back that says,

"The drive could not be mapped because no network was found.

IPCONFIG says,

The Ethernet adapter shoudl not be an issue because the VPN connection is
made over DUN on the local machine. When I set up the VPN, I checked,
"Never dial a connection<" becuase I always plan to be connected to the
Internet via my ISP when I establish the VPN.

Why do I get the error?

I solved this problem by checking the option to "Dial an Internet connection
first" on the General Tab of the VPN applet. I thought the VPN would
connect allright as lon as the Dialip Internet connection was present. NO
so, apparently. The VPN connection is made over an existing dialup Internet
connection but apparently the VPN etwork address that is established is not
available to NETBIOS. If the "Dial and Interent connection first" option on
the General tab is checked, then the VPN applet will find the VPN network
If the Diialup connection to the Internet is established, the VPN will use
that connect and not attempt to redial. If no Internet connection exists, it
will dial.

Who would'a guessed?
