Unable to Logon Interactively

Max

I have a 'You are unable to logon interactively. Please
see you administrator.' issue that I have attempted to
repair. I have been unsuccessful and need assistance. I
have ensured that the user is a member of the Remote
Desktop Users Group and have reviewed the Local Logon
Policies for the machine. I still cannot determine what
is causing this problem. Any help is appreciated.

Hi Max,

Have you checked to make sure that the user has a password? If the user
trying to login does not have a password, it will not let you login.

Let us know if this resolved your issue.

The user does have a password. The real funny thing is, I
am able to log in myself as a different user and it then
tells me that this will log off the user who cannot gain
access via remote desktop. Could it be because he is
actually already logged on to the PC and happens to leave
the monitor turned off? I wouldn't think so becasue I
actually do this everyday and am able to log on remotely
to my own PC from home without any problem. The only
difference I can see between his XP Pro machine and and
mine, is that under my Decurity Settings/Security
Options:Interactive Logon: Do not require CTRL-ALT-DEL the
default of 'not defined' shows up. On the other PC it
says disabled.

What happens if you logout the user you are trying to login with then try
and connect?

Does the same thing happen or does it work?

Thanks,

The same thing. I can connect as someone else, but not
as the user of the PC. Specifically it give this:

The user \Domain\UserName is currently logged on to this
computer. If you continue, the users Windows session will
end and any un-saved data will be lost. Do you want to
continue?

If you continue, you can log on to the machine. When I
did this, I then logged off and tried to login as the user
of the PC and still got the original error.

Take a look at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=289289

Also check to make sure that the Remote Desktop Users Group has the
user right "Allow logon through terminal services".

I did ensure the user was added to the Remote Desktop
Users Group and attmpeted to login as him again. I was
unable to, and the message went like this:

"Your interactive logon has been disabled. Please see
your system administrator."

I then logged on as myself (I had added myself as a member
of the Remote Desktop Users Group, and was able to logon
without any difficulty.

There is obviously a security issue with this account's
SAM file (at least I think).

Did you check that the Remote Desktop Users group has the user right
"Allow logon through terminal services"?

I had upgraded my machine from Windows 2000 to Windows XP and no-one
could log on to this machine through RDC (all getting "the local
policy of this system does not permit you to logon interactively")
though all clean install XP machines were fine.

Your solution above was THE solution and must have been hangover from
W2K.

Only curious thing is that though Remote Desktop Users group shows as
a local group in 'Manage' it could only be added as a domain group to
the "Allow logon through terminal services" service.

Thanks a lot,
