Unable to log on to a domain after renaming the computer

Hi,

I have windows 2000 Advanced Server with active directory
activated. Currently there are 600 users connected to this
server. As a requirement all the Client PC have to change
the Computer Name. What will be the impact. Is there any
standard way to do it...how to clean up the list showing
in active directory -> computers. Will the new computer
name will be automatically updated ? What will happen to
the old computer name showing in active directory-
computers. Will this will be deleted automatically. ?

Also some of the PC are win98 based(this pc name will not
be listed in active directory). Above mentioned one is
XP/Windows 2000 professional.

Thanks in advance for any help regarding this

Thanks again
Sajith

When you change the computer name the change will be made automatically in
AD Users & Computers so don't worry, you wont have hundreds of old names
lingering about. Windows 98 PC's don't have a computer account on the domain
so you don't need to worry about these either.
All I would watch out for is your name resolution (WINS, DNS) and any
scripts, applications or service accounts that might be manually hard coded
with an old computer name.
