Unable to log in to some profiles - just hangs

Hi,

I am having trouble logging in to some of my user profile on my pc, I am
running XP pro, I click on the user and it does one of two things, it either
hangs with the message loading user setting or it starts to log in, loads the
wallpaper and then just hangs at that screen with no icons or start menu.

I have tried loads of things but am stumped so any suggestions would be
appreciated!
