unable to lock winXP Pro workstation

Hi!

My problem is that i cannot lock my computer running winXP pro SP2 (neither
ctrl-alt-del + lock workstation, nor win-l, nor change user (actually i don't
have that option any more)
when i try to lock, the screen flickers, the lock-sound is played but it
goes right back to the desktop. and i now turned on the 'display ctrl-alt-del
window to logon' option and now it does display this window. BUT when i press
ctr-alt-del to unlock the PC it just goes right to the desktop without asking
me for logon information.
autologon is not enabled, i have to login manually after reboot or logoff.
I recently installed the Novell Networking client (v4.91 SP3 for win) but I
am pretty sure that it worked normally even after that. The logon style was
through the installation changed to the classic style, no more welcome screen
(might that be the problem?). I did not make any other significant changes to
the system that I can think of.

I appreciate any help or comments!
cheers
Chris

Try using msconfig to do a selective startup disabling system services and
startup to see if that makes a difference. If it does you will have to
troubleshoot more with msconfig in a trial and error method to determine
which service/startup is causing the problem. I would also check the
application/system/security logs via Event Viewer to see if anything is
recorded there as warning/failure at the time when the computer lock fails.
