Unable to link error

After downloading IE 6.0, I started getting the following
error. Action canceled. Internet explorer was unable to
link to the page you requested.

I have tried every solution I can find in the Microsoft
help sections.....nothing works.

Can someone help?

Check for a file named HOSTS with no extension (not Hosts.sam). It may be a
hidden file. Open it with Notepad and remove any line referencing the site.
Or, rename HOSTS to OLDHOSTS

I changed Hosts filename to Oldhosts, rebooted, and still

have the same problem. Now what?

Open the Internet Options applet in Control Panel
Uncheck "Enable third-party browser extensions" on the Advanced tab.
You may also have to set the Home Page to about:blank

Then eliminate any scumware.

won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
