Windows ME.
It's not my computer but I've noticed from the fault log
that they have been getting "invalid page fault in module
kernel32.dll" errors from the day they bought this machine.
I think the RAM is ok.
I thought Windows ME might be corrupted, that's why I'm
upgrading. Shall I just try a clean install ?
When you say you "think the RAM is ok" is that because you've actually
run a test? If you have *not* run a test, then do so with something
like the free Memtest86 (
www.memtest86.com). Allow the test to run for
an extended period - all day or overnight - so all the registers get
tested. If the RAM is bad, replace it. I would certainly opt for a
clean install at this point. However, it will not hurt to also test
their hard drive with a diagnostic utility from the drive mftr. first.
That way, you'll be sure the hardware is OK. If you *still* have
trouble with a clean install after testing RAM and hard drive, then
there are other hardware issues.
