Unable to install XP Home

Hi,
I have been trying to install XP Home Ed on a new harddrive all ready
formatted and partitioned. I boot from the CD and the install starts ok.
Then I get the message:
\i386\ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded. Error code 7 Hit any key to restart
Hit any key and install starts again and stops at
\i386\vgaoem.fon could not be loaded. Error code 32768 Hit any key to
restart
Hit any key and restarts and stops at
file vgaoem corrupted
rebooting gets me to a blank screen with a blinking cursor.

I've tried this same CD with another computer, barebones and unformatted
hard drive and get the same results. The CD itself looks clean and is a
Microsoft CD, not third party or anything.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

you may be able to call MS and get a replacement disk, if they still do
that.
Proof of ownership is a must.

You tried cleaning it and cleaning the CD drive with a lens cleaning kit,
right? If not do both first. If still no joy it could be a defective CD.
If this is a retail copy and you have proof of purchase contact MS:

How to Replace Lost, Broken, or Missing Microsoft Software or Hardware
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=326246

If it's an OEM copy you need to contact the vendor from whom you purchased
it.

Another option is to borrow a CD from someone who has the same type of
installation CD. Make a copy of it and use that. The CD is not unique,
it's the COA and CD key that are. Your CD key will work with any XP
installation CD of the same type.
