Windows file protection informed me that missing dll
files need to be installed. As soon as I insert the
original XP Professional software in the CD drive the
following message pops up: Please insert the correct
version of windows XP and try again. I have the correct
version CD but my PC has has been updated to the XP SP1
version. How can I replace critical missing files if the
installed SP1 version won't recognize the original files
on the CD and don't give you the option to check for
missing files on the computer.

Your assistance is appreciated

Just ignore it and when any autoplay screen comes up just
close it out and then go>start\run and type in
sfc /scannow and hit enter. Be sure to put the space after
sfc. This will scan for any missing or corrupt MS XP OS
files and replace them with the originals. You may have to
then go and update. Good luck.

Thank you for your response. I have already tried running
sfc /scannow from the start run menu but all I see is a
quick DOS menu flashing by. When I run it from the
command prompt I am required to insert the CD, which of
course gives me the message that it is the wrong XP
version. The same thing happens when I use sfc /scanboot.
I checked out the registry
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Winlogon"
and added this new key and value: SFCDIICacheDir
(REG_EXPAND_SC) %SystemRoot%\System32.After rebooting the
but the dumb system is still asking for the correct
windows XP CD. My PC was running fine before I installed
all the windows updates. Besides not being able to check
for problems I can also not install new programs from the
CD. I keep getting error 1311, Data.Cab File source not
found. Once I drag the software to my hard drive I have
no problems with installations. This is very frustrating.
