Unable to install any USB device

Hello, I have windows vista 32 Ultimate.

For a while I had no problem with usb devices. But since a month I am unable
to install any new USB device. The ones that are installed are still working.
But if I try to plug them in a different USB port or if I try to install a
new device windows is unable to find a driver.

I tried floppy drives, usb memory sticks, printers, game controllers, etc...
none will work.

I tried to install the usb stack patch from microsoft and it did not solve
the problem. I have reinstalled my chipset drivers and still the same problem.

Does anybody found a solution to this problem?

Thank you.

Under XP there is an issue, I don't know if it applies to Vista too:

Take a system repair snapshot then go into device manager and try removing
the root USB hubs, then rebooting (Vista should automatically redetec and
re-install the root hub drivers using the installed chip set drivers).
After doing that are you now able to install USB devices again?

this one really works...

1. Open Regedit
2. Change the value of
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\DevicePath to
'%SystemRoot%\System32'
3. Reboot your machine

Thanks to the original contributor...
