Unable to fully compress pictures in powerpoint presentation

Hi,

I frequently use the compress picture functionality in PowerPoint. Lately I
have found out that not all images can be compressed. Picture that were
inserted using the "insert>picture>from file" are compressed well. Pictures
that were inserted using the "edit>paste" are not compressed.

Since I frequently edit others presentations, I usually do not know how
pictures were inserted. When I suspect that certain picture cannot be
compressed, I cut it and then paste it using the paste special to paste it in
a jpeg format, and afterwards compress it.

Is there any way to find out which picture can be compressed and which can
not?

" Pictures that were inserted using the "edit>paste" are not compressed."

Depends on where they were copied from to some extent.
Chances are that "pictures" that cannot be compressed are in fact objects, a
quick check would be right click - does the menu that appears say "format
picture" or "format object"?

In addition to John's suggestion, you can try ungrouping the picture.
If it's an inserted image, it won't ungroup. If it's a copy/pasted image that's
come in as an OLE object, it will ungroup and turn into an image that you can
compress.

Sharon,

In addition what John and Steve said, consider trying out NXPLite. It's an
inexpensive PowerPoint addin that allows you to control the compression of
your images. There is a free trial available...
