unable to dvds since I upgraded to Vista

Sorry, if this is a duplicate, I posted 15 minutes ago and it didn't
appear...

I have a Dell Dimension e520, that came with XP, my dvd player worked
fine. Ever since I upgraded to Vista a few months ago, I haven't been
able to play dvds or cds. I've tried different dvds, I've tried using
different players (WMP, Windows Media Center, AVS) the same thing
happens on all of the players, I'll try to start the dvd and it goes
to a state of 'Not Responding', then pretty much every application I
have open will go to 'Not Responding' and I have to do a restart.

I've checked the device manager, the device is working properly, I've
tried updating the driver. I edited the registry and removed the upper
and lower filters. Still have the problem

Anyone know an answer to this problem?

Thanks in advance!

Hi tbo,

If you refer to my post 'Clean Install Windows Vista Using Upgrade Media' in
the newsgroup 'Windows Vista Installation and Setup', (dated 9/21/2007), you
should be able to solve your problem. However, you should check the Dell
website for Vista compatible drivers for your motherboard. I include links
for my post, and also the relevant page from Dell's website.
