Unable to Download or Restore

My system has decided to not allow me to download various things.
So far I have been unable to download the update for my AdAware
definitions and cannot load my email from Yahoo. I then attempted
a system restore and the system states it cannot do that either.
Norton Antivirus says I am clean but obviously something is wrong.
HELP!

I keep hearing that about Norton, but what is better out there? I was using
AVG but that was letting to many things in and nearly crashed my husband's
hard drive. I'm not a fan of McAfee either... what is the lesser of evils.
Any opinion? Thanks

Norton is probably the worst anti-virus program (their other products
aren't much better) available. McAfee is marginally better than
Norton, but I wouldn't have either on any of my systems.

I'm happy with the free Avast! antivirus here.
