Unable to display the folder. Microsoft Outlook...

I use OL '02 With XP
It has worked well until last week I opened several email
with attachments (which I do frequently). Since that
time my system is unstable and I can't use OL. When I
try and open it I get:

Unable to display the folder. Microsoft Outlook could not
access the specified folder location. Errors have been
detected in the file C:\Documents and Settings\USER
ID\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst. Quit all mail-enabled
applications, and then use the Inbox Repair Tool.

I thought it was a virus so I ran Norton and McAfee
antiviral software and came up with nothing.

I tried the inbox repair tool and the system crashes
everytime when it gets to 4%. The system crashes
frequently and tries to restart.

I've searched this forum for similar problems and haven't
found anything.

Any thoughts?

TIA,

Cam,

I have just recovered my Inbox with the assistance of
Jocelyn Fiorello on this forum.
She suggested the following website.
I ran Error check and CHKDSK from within XP 1st and then
downloaded and used the ihex tool recommended at this
website. All you have to do is delete a couple of bytes
by replacing with "0" and then run SCANPST again.
It worked for me!

Don't forget to backup your .pst file 1st!!!!!!:)

http://www.slipstick.com/problems/scanpst.htm and see if
any of the other
suggestions listed there are helpful. The last paragraph
under "Usage"
might help you since you're on WinXP.
