Hi,

I have just removed my old 20GB disk and installed a new 200GB disk that I
purchased last year. The hard disk can be detected by the setup and by the
Device Manager, but I cannot find it or access it through My Computer or
Windows Explorer. Is there a way to fix this?

Thank you so much in advance for all your help!

Sincerely,

Hieru

Hi,

I suspect you have not partitioned and formatted it yet. Only then (after
partitioning) will it be seen in Windows Explorer. Click start/run, type
diskmgmt.msc and click ok. Right click the new drive to begin.

Go to Start -> Run and enter diskmgmt.msc in the Open box.
Click OK.
Does your new hard drive show up in the list in the lower pane?
If it does, you need to right click the drive and create and
format partitions.

Thank you so much! I have formatted the drive and it have appeared. However,
is there a way to partition the drive on Windows XP, or must I purchase one
of those partition softwares sold by 3rd party?

Thank you so much!! :)

:
Good hard disk manufacturers usually have up to date installation and
support software utilities if required.

I know Seagate do...

It's always wiae IMO to check out the product manufacturers website
BEFORE installing anything just to be sure...

Hi,

Um, I already told you that answer: diskmgmt.msc - this is the drive
configuration snap-in. Apparently you created one large drive-encompassing
partition and formatted it. You can always remove it and redo it if you want
multiple ones.

Thank you guys so much for helping me out!!

I think what my problem now is... the new drive is now marked as "active"
(I'm not sure if that's correct, because I'm using a Chinese windows...) and
I cannot select it to be partitioned. I completely formatted it but it only
shows it as "easy", and there are no option of partition at all. @_@

I'm so sorry for being such a computer illiterate! And thank you all for
helping me! :)

Love,

Hieru
