unable to delete email or empty "deleted items" folder

I am getting the error message of:

The drive that contains your data file is out of disk space. Empty the
Deleted Items folder or create space on the drive by removing some of your
files. Access is denied. Verify the disk is not full or write protected and
that the files are not being used.

I have a partitioned hard drive. C-drive has 15.4Gb free and the D-drive
has 7.44 Gb free so i doubt it is space. I do not have the drives write
protected. And i got the error while trying to empty the Deleted Items file.

I really wanted to clean out my emails today and make the total file
smaller... but when I tried I got this error..... Any suggestions??
