Unable to create folders

R

Roman King

My computer (WinXP Pro SP2) has two separate C- and D-drives.
For a precautionary measure, D-drive (250 GB) was reformatted.
Before reformatting, all folders and files in D-drive were copied onto an
external drive (I-drive).

When I tried to copy a few folders from the I-drive to the empty D-drive, I
am getting following error:

Error copying file or folder
Cannot create or replace "xxx folder": access is denied.
Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not
currently in use.

When I tried to create the folder, I am getting the same error.
I am the only user for this computer. Please help me with this urgent
problem.
TIA. Roman

Are you using Windows explorer to copy,
Or are you at the command prompt ?

I use Windows explorer. But during last decades, I did not have such a
problem.
( In the past, I haven't used command prompt at all).

BTW, when I tried to recreate the folder, it prompted

"Cannot create directory [xyz]! Please remove the write protection!

I am very puzzled on this problem. When I looked at D-drive under Safe
Mode,
nothing was found in the D-drive.

OK, go to the Windows command prompt
Type CD\ and hit enter to put you in the Root directory,
Change to I: drive,
Type ATTRIB and hit enter to see if the drive is write protected.

Just in case you are not familiar with the Windows command prompt,
Type CMD on the start-run line and hit enter,
Then type CD\ to put you in the Root directory.

Hi Everybody,

I eventually solved the problem.
There are some confidential folders on D-drive. Those folders were hided
with "Folder Guard".
Reformatting of D-drive was performed without unhiding these folders with
Folder Guard.
That was the problem.
This morning I opened Folder Guard and unhided those hidden folders.
Voila! Everthing returned to the normal.
I thank you for your response.
