Unable to contact web pages

I am unable to bring up Yahoo, Microsoft, and other web
pages by typing them in the address line, I get the
timeout page. The Windows Help and Support will not
connect with Microsoft. I can get web sites from my
favorites list without a problem. I thought my computer
may be infected with the 32.Blaster.Worm Virus so I ran
the anti-virus tools from Symantec and Sophos and both
indicated that there was no virus. I also have updated
my Symantec Anti-Virus and Zone Alarm and they show a
clear computer.

What am I missing? Do I need to reconfigure my internet
options? I am a novice and could use a little help.
