Im no longer able to connect to the network on my main PC after the most

to fix it?

Was the system restarted after the updates were finished installing ?
Is there a 3rd party firewall being used on the affected system ?

Suggest you shut down the affected system and any other systems on the
network. T
hen power down the router. Same for the modem.
Wait 2 minutes.
Restart the modem and give it time to sync.
Restart the router, give it time to sync.
Restart the main system and see if it connects now.

If no joy, then open Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.
Make sure the 'Show updates' box is checked at the top of ARP.
Scroll down to the bottom of the window until you see
'Windows XP - Software Updates'
Start with the first most recently installed update.
Uninstall it and restart if prompted to.
Can the system connect now ?
If not, then uninstall the next most recent update, reboot if prompted
to and test connectivity.

If and when you come to the update that is causing the issue, contact MS
for no-charge support in getting this update installed with no adverse
affects on the system:

Yes, and none of the reboot options (safe mode, safe w/networking, safe with
command prompt, last know good configuration, or start windows normally)
succeed in getting off the black screen. Page will attempt reboot each time
an option is selected, only to end up on the same screen.

Help!

I too installed the big Microsoft Security update yesterday on my T61 Lenovo
with Windows XP professional version 2002 SP3
After that, I couldn’t connect to the internet.
At the advice of a tech support person: I type in run; then cmd; then
ipconfig. The resulting message indicated the laptop was not seeing the
Ethernet cable plugged into it.
I then tried to do a “restore†to before the updates; which wasn’t allowed.
Out of frustration, I went in an “uninstalled†anything that had been
installed yesterday.
What do you know; my internet connection worked fine.
Unfortunately that leaves me without the latest security updates [and I
think one netframe update].
