I am using a new computer but the same isp,(aol) and the same access numbers I was using on my old computer but when I sign on it says dialing etc, then it says connected then a message pops up that say my internet connection was lost. Then it will attempt connecting with the second access number, then a message comes up unable to make a connection. Sometimes it will take as many as 9 attempts before I am finally connected. After being on line sometimes for as little a 3-4 minutes the message "your internet connection was lost" comes up and I end up having to start all over again. I contacted the computer manufacturer, the first time they told me to uninstall the drivers for the modem then use the restore disc to reinstall the drivers, the second time they had me uninstall internet explorer and then download the lastest version from microsoft. Needless to say I am still having this problem and the manufacturers next solution is to reformat my hard drive and then re-install using the restore discs. If I have to reformat the hard drive I will but I am hoping that I wont have to. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

most likely a bad phone line or modem. try changing the
outlet you are using,or if using a splitter remove it
check the line for noise. remove any third party
firewalls and update virus definitions and run a full
scan and download and run spybot with updated definitions.
you could reformat if you want but it sounds like
hardware not software.

1) remove firewalls (temporarily to make sure this is not your problem)
2) download and run Ad-Aware and/or SpyBot to clear your machine of unwanted
spyware
3) the possibility exists that the modem in your new computer is flaky or
your phone line is too noisy

Don't remove firewalls unless you want a virus/worm...be
sure your anti-virus is up-to-date and lower the security
setting on the firewall one notch.
