Unable to connect correct number of times

paradox

Hi there:
I am running TS on Win2K SP4. We have added 5 TS licenses
to the original 5 shipped with server. All RDCs are
WinXP, but I am only able to connect 6 users to the
server. There is no limit set in Active directory.
In the Terminal Services Licensing there are two entries.
The Existing Windows 2000 License has Type:Built-in
Total:Unlimited Avail:Unlimited Issued:10 licenses with
no expiration dates, the Windows 2000 Terminal Services
Client Access License is Type:Open Total:5 Avail:3
Issued:2 with 90 day expiration dates (from date of
issue).
I am getting printer errors as the driver is not loaded
on the server. I also have a machine that keeps forcing
an election MRXSMB Event 8003.
Does anyone know why I am unable to use 10 licenses.

You have only 5 normal server CALs (the 5 that came with the server).
Later you bought 5 TS CALs, of which 2 have been used (by non-W2K or
non-XP clients). So you'll need to buy 5 more CALs.

I didn't explain myself properly. All the machines are XP
pro. I can only connect a maximum of 6 times (usually
less) from the same machine or from 2 identical machines
(3 times each). I am starting to wonder if it is a
resource issue. I have 1gb ram on the server. Could this
be what's limiting the connections?

OK, I get the picture now.
No, 1 GB RAM should allow more connections than 5 or 6. Are these
clients on the same LAN as the server?
What error message do you get when the connection is refused? At
which stage exactly is it refused? Do you get a logon prompt or
not? Is there anything in the EventLog on the TS?
Have you checked if there is a connection limit set on the rdp-tcp
connection?

Is there anything in the EventLog on the TS?
Check if this fits your problem:

Also chech the Microsofts Terminal Services FAQ at

nal/terminal_faq.asp
about black hole routers (which may prevent the transfer of the TS
CAL to the client).

Thanks Vera

I didn't post the question but this resolved my issue. I have a W2k Term Server setup and connecting with a w2kPro pc with the latest RDP client installed. Other PCs could connect to the TermServer but mine wouldn't
This post fixed my issue...finally
