Unable to connect a vista laptop to secured home wireless network

The laptop will connect to internet if I make the network unsecured, but will
not connect to internet if I secure network. I have tried contacting
microsoft who says it is a gateway problem who says it is a internet provider
problem who says it is a linksys problem who says it is a microsoft problem.
Some one please help me. This is crazy. I have a linksys wrt54gs. all
other computers (3 wireless) connect without problem (all XP) this one will
connect with local access only. It is so frustrating that microsoft will not
stand behind their product and give support.

I've had this issue also and called linksys. They walked me through this tho
and don't remember all the steps. I had to put the IP address including the
dots (198.xxx.x.x.) in the address bar w/no www and it brought up the site
for setup and we corrected the secured feature under the security tab. You
can try that, it won't hurt.

thanks for the info....I found out the problem and hopefully will be able to
get gateway to help. It seems to be the realtek adapter is not compatable
with WEP encryption. I disabled the realtek adapter and installed a linksys
wireless g USB adapter and it signs on perfectly. so on to gateway to let
them know it is their hardware problem. thank you

Jodi,
I contacted Linksys and after an hour on live chat doing everything but what
you suggested, they told me they thouhgt it was a network adapter issue.
sure enough, I disabled the network adapter (realtek) and installed a usb
wireless adapter and it works perfectly. Thanks for pointing me in that
direction!
