When I close Outlook, it display the message that Outlook is exiting, but
the message never goes away and if I look in the Task Manager Outlook and
Mapi is still running as processes. I ahve tried reinstalling Outlook to no
avail. Installed Outlook with Office 2000 and running Windows 2000. Any
ideas?

We've been having this problem on our network. So far,
the only way we've been able to fix it is by obtaining the
Office 2000 SP3 hotfix from Microsoft and installing it
after SP3 is installed. I'm not sure why this is
happening (it started about three weeks ago). Does anyone
have information on how this is being triggered?

Some common reasons why Outlook will not shut down completely when you click
either the X or Exit:

1. PDA synchronization software with your PDA in the cradle.
2. WinFax Pro (especially 10.02 in Outlook 2003) - contact their support
for an alleged fix.
3. Franklin-Cover Plan Plus!
4. COM Add-ins.
5. Mail reminder add-ins that keep a stub of Outlook open in the background
to check for new mail and fire reminders.
6. Anti-virus/firewall programs that are set to scan incoming and outgoing
mail.
