unable to clear all history files?

When clicking on the File/Open prompt in Explorer, if I
then click a down or up arrow when the cursor flashes in
the dialogue box, a list of what are presumably
previously visited sites is shown. Some of these sites
are in my Favourites list but others are no longer
required. Deleting Cookies and temporary files, as well
as clearing history from Internet Options has no effect
on this drop-down list.

anyone know how I can clear it?

Here is what i did and the pages on the pull-down tab went
away... Go to Tools/Internet Options then click the 'Clear
History' button, then click the 'Delete Cookies' button,
then click the 'Delete Files' button. One of these works
but im not sure which one because i click all three, but
it does make the web adresses dissappear from the
file/open list.

Thanks, but that doesn't clear the list - I've tried it
many times. The list can appear clear, in that nothing
shows when clicking on the box, but when I strike an up
or down arrow on the keyboard there's a long list of
files in there. try it yourself and you may have a
surprise!

Martin,
These entries might be in the registry in a TypedURLs key:
157729 - How to Clear the History Entries in Internet Explorer:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q157729
DelTypedURL.inf from http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/DelTypedURL.inf will clear
this list.
EditURLs from http://www.aandrc.com/editurls/index.htm will clear selected
entries.

You might need to delete the damaged History folder- a new one will be
created on restart.
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

Free History Eraser from
http://smartprotector.com/eraser/free-history-eraser.htm will delete the
History folder in Windows 9x,2K, XP.
