Unable to change workgroup name

I want to change the workgroup name on a computer running XP-Pro. It is in a
network (or rather, I want it to be in a network) with two computers running
Win95. When I try to change the name and workgroup so that the workgroup
name is the same one as on the other computers, I receive the following
error message: "The following error occurred validating the name "....".
The specified workgroup name is invalid." The steps I have taken to get to
that point are: Control Panel/Performance and Maintenance/see basic
information about your computer/computer name/change and then try to replace
the workgroup name to that of the other two computers.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks very much,

I am not 100% positive but here, XP Pro SP2, when I go to change the
workgroup name I actually use the network setup wizard and recreate the
whole thing and reboot. If I only change a couple of small settings then I
don't need to reboot but if I change the name it makes me reboot. I'd go
ahead and use the wizard from the network connections applet in the control
panel and see if that works.

What name are you trying to assign? A workgroup name should be 1-15
characters long and contain only letters and numbers. I think that
Win95 allows invalid workgroup names, like ones with blanks in them.

Also, the workgroup name can't be the same as the name of any computer
on the network.
