Unable to change toolbars

I know this has ben discussed several times but...
Problem is when opening IE from desktop shortcut the address toolbar show
but all other ones are grouped under a MSN icon.
Deleting the shortcut and resetting a new ones has same results.
Opening IE from windows explorer/favorites gives me the complete set of
toolbars.
I have tried several fixes that have been mentiones in previous answers.
Also have a problem with opening 2nd window in IE. If link reopens in same
window, no problem.

Hi oldfogie :)

You don't mention which version of Windows you are using, but, try the
following information and see if it helps:

Restore Default Toolbars

Reset Internet Explorer's Toolbar Menu
http://toolbar.google.com/fixmenu
or.
Resolving problems with the IE toolbars being out of sync
http://www.onfoleo.net/support/kb/okb107.cfm
Restore Missing Toolbars
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_toolbarfix.htm

Try resetting the Toolbar position in the registry. Use this tool from Doug
Knox, MS-MVP:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_toolbarfix.htm

Or, use this REG:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/reg/IEToolbar.reg
[Close all browser windows and apply the REG script]

Restore Missing Toolbars, Menu bar in Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_toolbarfix.htm

Also, the toolbars seems to be mismapped. To resolve the
problem, see if this helps:

Close all instances of IExplorer.exe. Open ToolbarCop, click Tools menu, and
click Reset Internet Explorer Toolbar layout
Toolbar Cop from
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/toolbarcop.htm

Hope this helps.

I am running Win2K Pro.
I have exhausted all of the 'fixes' you have listed.
My biggest problem is having to open 'windows explorer', then 'favorites'
and selecting a site.
From then I can operate fine with the exception of not being able to open
"popup' or new window (only one browser window).
Have even tried going back to "last known good configuration" with no success.

Thanks

Hi oldfogie :)

Then you may need to repair your operating system. Try the following and

Jan,
Reload Win2K OS.
I am able to open more than one window in IE but still have the toolbars
hidden and can't view/show them when opening from a desktop shortcut.
Still have to go thru Windows Explorer.
Will post again when I find the solution.

What desktop shortcut, please?

Are you an MSN subscriber and running MSN9 (AKA MSN Explorer)?

Hi oldfogie :)

Try the following that has been suggested by MVP Wesley Vogal as a possible
solution for your problem:
********************************************************
Right click Desktop>Properties>Desktop tab
Customize Desktop button>General tab
Desktop icons>Select: Internet Explorer
**********************************************************
Also.....you need to get rid of the MSN stuff that you have added to your
toolbars that is hiding them. Uninstall any 3rd party programs or toolbars
and or add-ons until you can successfully access IE using the desktop icon.
Then you can add them back in one at a time to see which one is causing the
problem if you wish, but, I don't recommend it .

Hope this helps.

I'd suggest that OP uses Start | Run option. Run IEXPLORE ......and then see if IE browser comes up normal (with menu bar, address bar, tool bar).
I understand there's an issue with /a/ shortcut.

If address bar is visible, but not the menu bar.....do a Right-click on the address bar-area (not the actual text-input area) and
be sure that Menu bar option is Checked (on).

Hi oldfogie :)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Delete the IE icon on your desktop. Then Go to Start>Programs>scroll down to
the Internet Explorer icon>right click on it and select Send to>select
Desktop, and close out

Then click on the new desktop icon and see if that will open IE with the
proper toolbars.

Hope this helps.
