I downloaded XP Service Pack 1 the other day, and now I can't boot up. I
get a message: missing file...Ntoskrnl.exe. I tried using the Safe Mode, but
no luck. I have no XP CD, but I do have the recovery disks that came with
the PC. This will delet the files on the hardrive and reset to factory
settings.
In trying to save my files; can I buy and install XP home upgradeable CD
without lossing by existing files and programs

My best advise to you is find a friend who is using either
Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
Remove the hard drive from your computer, install it in
your friend's computer and copy your files off the drive.
Then replace your hard drive back into your computer, run
your factory recovery disc and take the drive out again,
put it back in your friend's computer and copy your data
back on.
