Unable to auto-play inserted video

I have inserted video clips into powerpoint 2002 through the
insert/object/video clip method. The video plays fine, but will not
auto-play -- meaning during the presentation, the object must be clicked to
play.
Is there a way to auto-play video clips?
Note: I was not able to insert video through the insert/movies or sounds
functions. Under this method, I would only end up with a black screen.

I am also using XP.
