Unable to access website due to a javascript problem?

Guest

Recently when I tried to get onto a particular website, it came up with this
message on the page "unfortunately your browser cannot read javascript, which
is needed to view this site. please update your browser to the latest
version" and I was not able to access the website. I have been to this
website a while ago and had no problems, so I don't know whether they've
updated it and something in my settings is stopping it working?

I am not sure as to what I should do. I've not had any other problems with
other websites and I believe I have been to other websites which use
javascript. I have Windows XP and Internet Explorer Version 6 and as far as
I'm aware everything is uptodate. Could it be something to do with security
settings?

Many thanks,
Sarah

Hi Sarah :)

Try the following and see if it helps:

You might want to refresh your scripting engine:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/nhp/default.asp?contentid=28001169
or
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/downloads/list/webdev.asp
Windows Script 5.6 for Windows 2000 and XP
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...43-7e4b-4622-86eb-95a22b832caa&DisplayLang=en

also....

Go to Tools > Internet Options>Security
Click on Default settings button

and....Courtesey of MVP Mike Burgess

Several of these are known to cause the problem:

1) Zone Alarm Pro [Private Header Info - enabled?]: Reset "Ad Blocking" and
"Cookie Control" to "medium" "Mobile Code Control" = Off

2) Symantec (ISS\NIS) [Enable Browser Privacy - enabled] Active Content -
"Allow All Scripts To Execute". Problem: some sites cannot detect the 128
bit
encryption Solution: Completely remove and reinstall NIS.

3) Any "ad blocking" software that blocks "http_referer" or contains entries
that are blocking access to the desired site.

4) HOSTS file that contains entries that are blocking access to the desired
site.

5) Cookie blocking software blocking "required" Cookies.

6) Pop-up blockers stripping header\url info.

7) WebWasher Standard Filter/URL Filter

8) Make sure the following Registry entry is not corrupt:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Internet
Settings] "User Agent"="Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0;)"

Your system can also be infected with malware or other scumware. Be aware,
your Anti-Virus won't detect all types of warez, Trojans, malware, worms,
etc., and neither can other adware or spyware related programs such as
AdAware and SpyBot. They don't have the proper definitions. They must also
be run in Safe Mode with Hidden Files enabled in order to fully scan all
files. Even if you have run such programs and nothing shows up, it does not
mean your system is clean. It takes a series of programs to fully clean
your machine. Some very aggressive and damaging variants of malware can
replicate themselves repeatedly, or mutate, if not removed properly. Follow
the steps here:

Hope this helps.

Hi:
In my knowledge, JAVA has some relation to 'security.'

If you're trying to access some of Security, particularly 'top security
class,' then there might be a problem opening the web-page you want.

Also, you need to look at some of 'software' using on that web-page you
need to access.

She has a JavaScript problem. Java has nothing to do with JavaScript.
