I am now unable to access the internet using my portable computer(Inspiron
9100). My wireless network has been running flawlessly since it was setup
this past June until 2 days ago when I was no longer able to access the
internet using this computer. All other computers in my (home) network
obtain internet access with no problem. I have no problems to access shared
files with the Inspiron. I am still able to access Outlook Express and
download my email on this computer and access NORTON and Ad-Aware updates
for download. All parameters on examination are normal, (wireless network
connection strength is excellent),etc. When I try to access the internet
with IE, I get the screen title which says---Cannot find server - Microsoft
Internet Explorer. I uninstalled SP2 and everything ran normally(access to
internet) with SP2 uninstalled. When I reinstalled SP2 again, I was no
longer able to access the internet. I have uninstalled and reinstalled 3
times and each time MSIE does not work with SP2 installed but works without
it installed. The IP address with SP2 either installed or uninstalled is in
the 198.168.xxx.xxx range. Can anyone help me in restoring my internet
access with SP2 installed on this computer?

It is likely that the windows firewall has become active and is blocking
your IE connection.

Click on Start > Control Panel > Windows Firewall

If you are using Norton Firewall then switch the Windows one off.

If you only have the windows firewall then click on the exceptions tab and
add an entry for Internet Explorer.
