Unable to access files

I am unable to open files in Word. Neither can I save a document I have
created. Publisher, PowerPoint, and Excel are working fine.
 
Which version of Word? What steps do you use to try to open a file? Do
you have this problem if you open Word in "Safe Mode" (hold Ctrl while
clicking on the Word icon or name)?
