password protect!

i am unable to use the password protect option in WORD 2007 as once i
doSAVE AS>TOOLS> the general options is greyed out. neither can use the
ENCRYPT option . EXCEL works fine

any suggestions plz!

Go to "save as", a window will pop up and at the top right hand corner
there's a button called "Tools". Click on that and a drop down menu pops up
and there's an option called "security options". Click on that and another
window pops up. Within this window called "Security", you can add password to
open or modify. After setting your password, save your documents. That's it.

That is what i am saying after i click tools in the window the options i get
is SAVE OPTIONS/PROPERTIES/MAP NETWORK DRIVE

The SECURITY OPTIONS option is GREYED out. ...i cannot click on it.

This *may* be an indication of corruption of the Word data key in the
registry - see if renaming the key (OldData) with Word closed makes a
difference.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data
