Unable to access drive with FAT32 drive, after a repair install on xp following failed sp2 install

Few days back posted question in microsoft's windows update group
about reboot loop problem after a failed sp2 installation. Unable fix
by any of the suggestions and articles in knowledge base. Took pc to
the shop from where i bought it, who managed to fix by performing a
repair installation. But its a bit slower now. 1. what should i do to
regain original speed?

2. Before all this problem, I had my c drive for xp and my secondary
removable
hard drive (old) with Fat32 file system, and were working fine. Now,
after
repair Installation, on booting, a error message occurs stating one of
your
disk drives is fat32 and a disk check is recommended with option
yes/no. with
'no' preselected. Unable to select 'yes'. Can only click ok. Then it
takes a
long time to boot and when it does does'nt recognise secondary drive,
Unable
access 'My computer'.etc. I have also bought a secondary new hard
drive which
i suppose is of ntfs format. when I use this computer seems towork
allright.
I need the data in the old hard drive and would like some advise to
make
windows read this drive with fat 32 file system. Thank you.

You really took it to a shop for help, with xp ??? 1st is C: in ntfs,if not
you
should convert it to it,go to run,type:cmd In cmd type:CONVERT C: /FS:ntfs
You can do this with any drive just change C:,you might also, boot to xp cd,
recovery,press enter for password,then type:CHKDSK C: /R When its thru,
type:EXIT Let xp restart, remove cd.You might need to adjust to boot to
cd in the BIOS,boot device priority(or similiar).

My C: has always been NTFS and D: has always been FAT32 (Removed from
old computer) and had no problems accessing both prior to the repair
installation following sp2 fiasco. Even now, it warns me saying its a
FAT32 and doesn't let me use it. Before I used access both without any
such warning messages.

As for taking it to shop, I was mislead by the following statements
from a help site:

Quote from eWeek May, 2004 Under the heading : Does Service Pack2
install on all xp installations?

"Another consideration is the following, Sp2 does install on Windows
xp oem versions, i.e. those that came with a computer and that are
tied with the computer. But if you run into a problem, these OEM
versions usually cannot do repair installations and only allow you to
completely erase and start from scratch. In other words with only an
OEM install CD you run the small additional risk should the Sp2
installation go wrong of either losing your installation and having to
start all over or having to buy a full version of Windows XP."

The vendor found that my oem cd had the capacity to do repair
installation and did it. Aiso since I bought it from him, he has to
provide me some sort of service, for a fee ofcourse. Also I needed to
buy another hard drive badly.
