Unable to access BIOS.

Hey,

I can't seem to be able to get into my System's BIOS, that system being
Windows XP Professional. I've tried the Hold Del at startup method, but it
doesn't work.

Is there an alternate method with which I could use?

Look at the manual for your machine. If that fails, contact the Vendor.

Have a look in the manual for your motherboard. You should be able to find
out how to access the BIOS from that.

You are out of luck then aren't you. This has nothing to do with Windows XP. You should bew able to download your manual.

Turn off the machine.
Turn it back on..

If a "Picture Advertisement" comes up (Dell, HP, Packard Bell, etc), press
ESC quickly..
Somewhere it should say "Press XXX to enter system setup" or some similar
wording.

If not - common keys at startup (this is before you EVER see the Windows
Logo for the loading of Windows..):

F2 (Dell's like this)
F1
DEL
CTRL+SHIFT+S

Sometimes you can figure out what key it needs by turning off the computer,
turning it on and pressing all the keys over and ovr on the keyboard - to
overflow the machine.. It then may come up with a "Keyboard Error - Press F1
to continue or XXX to Enter the System BIOS" or some similar wording.

Try to download a copy of the manual from the motherboard's manufacturer's
web site.

When your computer starts as soon as the first screen appears press Scroll
Lock on your keyboard. Somewhere on that frozen screen should be an
instruction to press a given key to enter the BIOS. If it isn't there, write
down the long number that will be there and post it back here. Also there
will be a name such as
Award or Phoenix and there are others-post that here as well.

How do you know the Del key is used to enter the BIOS screens? What
other keystrokes have you tried? How about F8, Esc, Spacebar, Enter?
Which operating system is on your computer is irrelevant since it is not
loaded yet. You can even get into the BIOS screens without any
operating system installed. Since you never mentioned WHAT computer you
have (or the motherboard if a custom-built), no one familiar with it can
give you a specific answer.

If you want help you need to give information.
What BIOS make shows up as you boot? What make is the computer? What make is
the motherboard? This will give hints- sometimes it's the INS key, a
Function key, and some machines need a floppy disk to access the BIOS
It has nothing to do with which version of Windows you use- the only info
you gave..

The operating system is immaterial, it has no bearing upon how one
enters the BIOS. Only you know what motherboard and BIOS you have, so
only you know the answer to your question. ;-}

90% of the time it's either DEL or F2 (one key only).
BTW, XP is the OS; The BIOS comes with the machine (motherboard to be
exact}.
