Hi All,

I have been unable to reinstall TCPIP after uninstalling
on windows 2000
professional sp 3 or 4 with and without administrators
permissions. The
error message read like this "unable to install
component: error is Access
is Denied" This problem start with a requested url and a
DNS error is
received, ipconfig /all shows all is good except we
noticed dns search list
doesn't appear.

The only solution so far appears to be reinstall win 2000
completely, a
quick look at policies doesn't provide any fruit.

any help would be appreciated

Hi Jim.
well you most certainly want to be the administrator when
doing this... otherwise you'll certainly get this error.

When logged in as admin... release your ip (cmd,
ipconfig /release)..

Also... anything using the protocol needs to be
Uninstalled from the add/rem in ctrl panel... ie: WINS,
Simple TCP/IP services etc.... you'll know what to take
out because the errors will get a little more intuitive
once you pass the 'access denied' stage. Ensure you stop
the services before uninstalling to prevent more problems.

Once those things are done... you should be able to take
that out of there. I ran into this very problem tonight
as a matter of fact. Hope this works for you.
