Lost Internet connectivity with message tcpip not installed. At reinstallation recv. mesg. "One or more services for Simple TCPIP component took more than their allotted time to start. Installation will continue, but services will not be available until they have started completely." PING results of loopback at command prompt results in "Unable to initialize Windows Sockets interface, error code 0." Has anyone seen and been able to resolve this issue?

The following advice was posted by Ken Wickes [MS] some time ago:

1. Backup and delete the following registry keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock2
2. Reboot
3. Open network connections folder, right click your network connection, Properties.
4. Install | Protocol | Add.
5. Click "Have Disk...", type "\windows\inf" in the box, and click OK.
6. Click "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)", then click OK.
7. Reboot.
