Un-formatting the bullets of a list

I am working with a bulleted list (it is in outline form). When I created
the outline, I highlighted several of the bullets and their text, but later
decided that I only wanted some of the text within the bullet to be
highlighted, and not the bullet itself.

When I un-highlighted the text, the highlight formatting remained on the
bullet itself. I tried using the Customize menu of Bullets and Numbering to
un-format the bullet, but the highlight feature is not one of the options you
can change. I tried clicking the highlight option on the toolbar, selecting
"none" and then applying the characteristic to the bullet itself, but Word
won't let me click on the bullet, only its text.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...Thanks!!

Select the paragraph mark at the end of the bulleted paragraph and remove
the highlighting from it.
