Umax 3450 Scanner Not Found in Programs

I finally got Vistascan 3.75 to load in Vista Ultimate following the
well-known methods from the Internet for Windos XP.

The Vistascan program will do a preview scan, but the image disappears
immediately, so I can't adjust the scan area for a final scan.

I have tried Windows Photo Gallery, Windows Fax and Scan, Presto Page
Manager and even the Vista Access scanner test. They all report that there is
no scanner connected to the computer. I know it's working, because I saw the
preview for an instant in Vistascan.

Device manager reports that USB Scanner is working properly.

Does anyone know how to make Vista realize the scanner is there?

Thanks for any help,

I am not familiar with either of those programs.

Nothing I have will see the scanner except Vistascan itself, even though USB
Scanner appears in my hardware devices.

Do you know what kind of driver you have for this device? If the driver is
TWAIN, only a TWAIN application will see the device. If the manufacturer
has a WIA or WIA 2 driver that you can install for the device, Windows Fax
and Scan will see the device as well.

Hope that helps.
