ultra ATA vs SATA

I did a clean install of XP Pro but wasn't asked for any SATA drivers
so I assumed that Windows had installed them. Now when I look at
Device Manager I see that I have 2 ultra ATA storage controllers
listed rather than anything SATA or RAID. Is this likely to slow down
the performance of the HDD? Is there any way to change it to SATA
without reinstalling the OS?

You Know Who ~

do you have SATA or ATA drives? Most likely they are ATA and for that
reason SATA drivers are not being loaded.

I have an Intel Motherboard D945GNT. I had a simular question and here is
what Intel Wrote to me...

Thank you once more for contacting Intel(R) Technical Support.

Regarding your questions:

1- An F6 installation disk is only required if you are setting a RAID
volume. In the BIOS (In later Intel(R) desktop boards you can enter the BIOS
setup program by repeatedly pressing the <F2> key during the boot process),
under Advanced > Drive configuration, you will find the option 'Configure
SATA as'. If you select either RAID or AHCI, the F6 drivers will be required
and the Ghost* will fail.

However, if this option does not appear in the BIOS, or if you set it to
'IDE', there is a better chance that the migration will work, since the F6
drivers are not needed.

2- You can find a utility to create the F6 driver floppy at the following
website:

http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=2068

3- A Ghost* migration is possible if the previously mentioned option is set
as IDE; otherwise, you need an operating system image that has the F6
drivers embedded (loaded when the operating system was installed).

Please do not hesitate to contact us again if you need further assistance.

Sincerely,

Paul C.

It's a SATA HDD which was previously installed on another computer but
for that one I used the F6 option during setup. I wiped the disk clean
before using it in the new pc. There don't seem to be any BIOS options
relating to this.

Will the performance of the HDD be affected by having installed it
this way? If so, is anyone aware of a way I can set it up as a SATA
without a reinstall?
