UK Heatsink & Fan help

hello, I've managed to get my hands on an AMD 2600XP 266FSB CPU (highest CPU
my mobo could handle), I've been looking for a good heatsink, fan and
thermal grease to keep it as cool as possible. Can anyone recommend a good
setup, or even point me in a general direction like a manufacturer/UKshop
url where i could get them from? there's so many different products
available i don't know which one would suit my system best. For example,
should i be using a copper heatsink, and would an overrated fan, say one
designed for a 3200XP, be a good idea to decrease the CPU temp? Also what
type of thermal compound do you think i should use?

Another point is its not a full tower case and a Micro-ATX (ECS K7VMM+) mobo
so there's not a lot of space to work with!

any advice appreciated!

For coooling paste you could use arctic silver or a similar substance by
coolermaster (available from PCworld at a decent price.)

As for fans, well you pays your money. Picking a more beefy fan means you
get a cooler CPU, but as you will probably upgrade your mobo fan and cpu
later then unless you want to overclock I would go for something relativley
cheap that is rated for your machine.

It is probably worth going to your local computer fair or even high street
vendor as the savings on mail order will be eaten up in postage costs.

any decent one will do the job: some are quieter than others though.
generally you want one rated for at least 2400-3000 - a copper core's nice,
as it an 80mm fan as it's quieter than a 60mm one. there's a lot of
cosmetic choice as well if you have a window case. read the reviews first
as you probably don't want one that sounds like a plane taking off...

i like the akasa ones for 11 quid or so: nice and quiet and does the job.

for thermal paste, there's not much difference: just don't put too much on.
the thermal compound supplied as a pad on some is reasonable as well
although purists like the grease...

so long as you're looking at sub 55 degrees or so you're fine.

www.overclock.co.uk are my favourite at the mo, but just about any of the
usual suspects (ebuyer, microdirect, aria etc) will all do the job.
