TZEDIT.EXE introduces errors

http://download.microsoft.com/download/5/8/a/58a208b7-7dc7-4bc7-8357-28e29cdac52f/TZEDIT.exe
is the oft-touted solution to addressing the 2007 US Daylight Saving Time
change issue. Be advised that we have experienced serious errors in some
otherwise stable Sun Java client applications as a result of using this
utility. The extent of these time errors are not yet known.

http://www.dailyfx.com/charts/Chart.html is displaying time 3 hours in
advance of local PST time. It is not yet known if this anomaly exists only
after 0000 GMT or before it as well.

The Trader's Workstation trading platform at http://interactivebrokers.com
is shutting down 3 hours before the scheduled time of 2200 PST.

These errors have only been observed today after using the TZEDIT.EXE today.
We offer them as an incentive for others to closely observe the behaviour of
the applications you use after running TZEDIT.EXE.

The folks here:

have reported this issue and also one with Exchange and Outlook.
The link on that page will lead you to Sun's page (
http://java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/Intl/USDST/ ) Sun
advises to update your Java version (which you should have done a long
time ago anyway for other unrelated security concerns).

Thanks. Our Java auto-update runs every Friday, so we would've acquired that
version later today.

Did it (Java update) fix the problem?

Hi Patrick - Don't know if this would fix it or not, but you might want to
give it a try:

The TZEDIT.EXE was applied, edited to automatically set DST on the second
Sunday of March at 02:00, but it didn't switch to DST this morning. I had to
switch timezones to get the 1 hr. difference.

What a POS operating system! The Linux fix worked as expected with no
trouble.
