typing URL sends the CPU to run 100%

When I type www.anything at the URL location, (and I have
the task manager window open,) I see that the CPU starts
running at 100%, while nothing shows up as previously
visited addresses and the drop-down history menu is
blank. I know that this doesn't happen on my friend's
computer.
Does anyone know if the only solution left is to re-
install IE?

Thanks a lot.

The amazing Mr Frank Saunders has kindly solved the other
problem I posted to the group, which also solved this one.

regedit
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersi
on\Explorer\AutoComplete]

"Append Completion"="yes"
"AutoSuggest"="yes"
"AutoComplete"="yes"

Thank you so very much!!!
