Typing replaces selection, instead of inserting

Hi -

When I am in the design view of a table, I want to insert a character, but
it gives me overwrite mode.

For example. Let's say I wrote the word Desgn. I want to insert the I.
When I put the cursor between the s and the g, the computer highlights gn.
This means I have to type IGN instead of just I. Inserting in a long phrase
means I have to retype the whole phrase practically.

It seems like this behaviour just started. I don't know how it started, and
I don't know how to stop it. My Insert key is set to Insert, not Overwrite
(the OVR doesn't show on the bottom right of the screen.) I don't think the
problem is with the Insert key.

Or another way to describe it : if I put the cursor and the end of a word,
and hit the left arrow it selects the letters going from right to left. I
would like it just to move the cursor to the left, without selecting any
letters. As a matter of fact, the cursor behaves properly as I write this
letter in Outlook. Why won't it behave in Access???

Thanks for your advice.

Got it. EXT was showing on the status bar as the keyboard mode. Pressing
ESC to disengage it worked!!
