Typing over lines on form

I have a form with lines and I need to know how to keep the lines from moving
or disappearing when I type in information. The form and lines are
permanent, but the information changes, so I do not want to use UNDERLINE.

2) would work best.

THis is because the lines were created using the underscore character.
THis is a character just like any letter or digit. When you type "over"
these lines the underscore characters will move to the right just like
any other text would. Or, if INS is on, they will be replaced by the new
text.

Word is really not suited to creating "fill in the blank" forms,
although many people insist on using it this way. Anyway, why use lines
at all? It's a leftover from the days when forms were filled out by
hand.
