typing over blanks with text

I am trying to find out how to overtype text on a lined blank such as a form
(with lines in the blanks). I do not want the lines to move and want the
line to remain under my text. Thanks! ~Sonya

If you've been using the underscore to create these lines ("_"), the easiest
way for you to make the lines stay is to just use underlined text when you're
typing. Can't think of any other way to do that in Word off the top of my
head....
Tip: use "ctrl" + "u" to turn underline on/off

If you don't want other text to move, you'll need to use tables or frames.
These would have bottom borders that would serve as your line. If other text
moving is OK, try underlined macrobutton fields. See
http://www.addbalance.com/usersguide/fields.htm#MacroButton and
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/TblsFldsFms/UsingMacroButton.htm for more
about macrobutton fields. You may also want to look into what Word calls an
"online form." Check this in help. For more about online forms, follow the
links at http://addbalance.com/word/wordwebresources.htm#Forms or
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/FillinTheBlanks.htm especially Dian
Chapman's series of articles.

Hope this helps,
